Colin conducted his first choir while he was still at school, and has been directing sung music in various forms all his life. During his postgraduate studies at the Royal College of Music, he was Musical Director for the (then) ILEA of the Gemini Youth Theatre Company, for whom he wrote music for two shows. He then began a twenty five year tenure as first keyboard and Assistant Musical Director on the West End production of Les Miserables, conducting over a thousand shows. After leaving Les Miserables he taught on the Musical Theatre course at Chichester University, where he was MD for their productions of Pippin and Thoroughly Modern Millie. He was also MD for a production on the London fringe of Mozart’s Don Giovanni, with a newly commissioned libretto by Ranjit Bolt . Since moving to Devon he has been Musical Director of the vocal group Vocal Accord, based in Barnstaple, and Choral Director at the Maynard School in Exeter.
